Family, friends, colleagues - there's a range of people we need to deal with on a day-to-day basis. But do we truly know how to do this? Some of the biggest issues we have are related to people. Judgements, conflicts and difficulties when dealing with others can be a source of agony and stress in our minds. We only need to look at the horrible situations happening around the world, to see that we often lack the wisdom on how to deal with other people.
Think about it for just a moment. If you treat someone angrily, how do they respond? It obviously depends on their own mind, but generally the type of response you get is a negative one - ranging from apathy, stubbornness, to mirrored anger. And yet, have we ever stopped to think about how we deal with others and whether we're doing it right? It's surprisingly simple, but it does take a particular mindset.
The number 1 thing we need to do is master our own mindset first, and then it becomes easy to deal with others without getting caught in any negativity.
Here are some practical tips you can employ.
1) Have no mind.
This means anger begets anger, no mind begets no mind. Don't we talk to be listened to? If you speak angrily, how often do people listen to your words?
When dealing with another, do so with the absence of your mind. When you do this, that person will feel at utmost ease. When you do this, you will become one with that person. When you become one with him, he will listen to your words, which are free of mind.
2) Have no attachments.
Any and all attachments can trap you and the other in a mind that neither really wants to be in. There is an energetic exchange that occurs in a conversation, and one must be mindful of the impact of their words and the intentions behind them as they can be felt whether we see it or not.
3) Avoid conflict.
Easier said than done, but the fact of the matter is, conflict is useless. Disagreements are OK if they're productive, but a negative conflict - does it ever lead to anything positive? It tends to lead to resentment.
4) Keep your mind clean.
If your mind is filled with negativity, you project that out on to the world, and the world returns it back to you. It's draining for everyone around you, so do yourself and them a favour and keep your mind clean and don't soil the environment with your negativity!
